I’m sharing my experience to raise awareness about serious concerns involving the Walgreens at the Summit location in Elgin, IL, which recently took over operations from The Medicine Stop of Elgin.
As a patient with a background in pharmaceutical sciences, I was treated inappropriately by the former owner of The Medicine Stop. He displayed two very different personalities—one polite and professional in front of patients, and another controlling and hostile behind the counter. When I respectfully pointed out an issue with a prescription, he became visibly angry and refused to acknowledge he was wrong. Instead of addressing the matter professionally, he told his staff that I “think I know everything about pharma,” which is not only false but discriminatory and slanderous, especially considering I am SSA-protected due to disability.
He also reportedly instilled fear in a long-time employee, restricting her from using public restrooms and demanding she use the one in his private office. She was allegedly blacklisted from future employment at Walgreens simply for speaking with me, a patient, in a professional manner. This raises serious concerns about workplace harassment, abuse of power, and retaliation.
Additionally, patients were not notified in advance of the pharmacy’s sale to Walgreens, which appears to violate Illinois regulations requiring public notice and transparency regarding prescription transfers. Many patients, including myself, were left confused and concerned about where our medications were being sent.
It’s also worth noting that the former owner appears to have access to grants and influence in Elgin, which he seems to use to operate without accountability. His behavior reflects narcissistic tendencies and a need to always be right—even at the expense of patients and staff
